Here’s a fun koala news story that we just loved at ikOala HQ. An incredible journey from a very, very lucky koala.
This little koala held tight to a vehicle grille for almost 90km after being hit by a car on an Australian motorway. The tenacious little koala has thankfully survived the bumpy ride with just small injuries.
This extremely lucky marsupial, named Timberwolf, grabbed onto the car after he was run over near Maryborough in Queensland, Australia. The family inside the vehicle did not realise that they had picked up a hitchhiker until they next stopped for gas at a petrol station in Gympie.
Little, lucky Timberwolf was obviously terrified when he was taken to the vets at nearby Australia Zoo wildlife hospital. However, after a full look over, the koala was released with the following prognosis. Just a torn nail.
In speaking of the 4 year old koala, Claude Lacasse, who works at the zoo, said: ‘It’s absolutely amazing he survived and has such minor injuries. It’s a truly remarkable story. He’s a very lucky koala.’
Australia Zoo was established and overseen by well known and loved Australian TV personality, movie star and animal conservationist Steve ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin. Lucky for Timberwolf and lucky for us, Australia Zoo treats about 70 koalas every month, many of them injured in car accidents or domestic pet attacks.
Timberwolf is currently taking it easy, in a Eucalyptus tree within the Zoo, and will soon be let go back into the wild at the same spot where his amazing adventure started.
